Sparkle in the Snow
Friday, November 20, 2009 I'm failing at posting lately. I have many things that I plan or want to blog about but few come to fruition. I have to blog these two fall photos however. The cold air, the wind, and even a little snow have swept in and put the fire out in the trees. I loved the trees on fire! My favorite light of the year. I do love fall. I love that everything is full of color. It's not just the trees but the light in the air. It catches the leaves and plays in the branches. It time for school, and football, and post-season baseball. Everything starts to become richer and have more depth. But then it has slowly faded.
I'm not complaining though because I'm really looking forward to the snow and the winter. I love winter! Sweaters and coats and boots. Mostly I love the snow. I love the sky in the winter...the way that it looks like a water color painting all of the time. I love the cold air and the way your eyes water a little because the sun is so bright on the snow. I love deep quiet of being inside during a snow storm. Everything is muffled and still.
Last year I discovered snow in the moonlight. Have you ever see fresh snow on clear night with a bright moon? It sparkles! Not just a little, but it really sparkles! Like mounds of Martha Stewart glitter...everywhere! Give it a try. Take a walk on a clear winter night. Notice how the snow sparkles like it never would in the sun.
There is something beautiful in everything and everyone. You may not see it at first. Like snow. Most people hate it because it's hard to drive in and it's cold. But that's only because they haven't seen it late at night...far up in the mountains...under a full moon. That is in everyone. The trick is to find the place where they sparkle and to allow them to do that. Here's the deal...I'll try to photograph the sparkling night snow (this is NOT an easy task...it's night and dark and...sparkle...come on!) and you try to see the beauty in everyone that you meet. Try to find the place where they sparkle. Increase your power to see.
This is my favorite time of year. There is so much to love and so much to be thankful for...even if the trees are no longer on fire...soon there will be sparkle in the snow.
