The longest post ever about not blogging...

Soooo…in explanation of my lack of blog posting lately, I’d like to quote from a very famous poet…Will Smith (aka the Fresh Prince of Bel-air):

Now this is the story all about how

My life got flipped, turned upside down

And I’ll like to take a minute just sit right there

I’ll tell you how I became the prince…

OK, OK, That last part probably isn’t relevant. But the rest is. You see, I am not good at moving…back up. I’m very good at moving (actually packing and unpacking my stuff…think Monica from FRIENDS) but I’m not good at moving…the part that involves change.

So I guess that you’ve sensed where I’m going already…I moved. I thought it wasn’t going to be a big deal, but it was. There is something about uprooting the comfortable part of your life and transplanting it somewhere else that makes you reevaluate…well…your life. At least for me.

I didn’t move across the country. In fact I only moved 45 minutes away. I moved to the smack-dab-middle of downtown Salt Lake City. What? Right…you heard me right. And no I didn’t switch jobs. I’m now a commuter. I live in the city and work in the suburbs. Proof that my life is totally backwards. I’m actually Benjamin Button soooo….

I can’t begin to describe the events and thought processes that brought me to this decision. All I know is that it’s the right thing to do. I doubt it every day, but I still hang on to the fact that I know that it’s where I’m supposed to be right now. There have been MANY people who have tried to convince me that I’m crazy to commute, to work in Cougar Town and live in Ute Land, to live in the city, to live in the busiest part of the city, to move again (remember how I just moved last summer and how I HATE moving), to commute to a job that is not technically my “career” nor my passion (though I interject that I do like it), to add more stress/time/money to the table etc. etc. But in the end, I still feel (despite the raging stress that it has caused me) that it’s where I’m to be.

How important is being where you are supposed to be?

Answer: Another song…one that I actually listen to regularly this time. From Monsters of Folk:

Do you like where you’re living?
Do you like what you do?
Do you like what you’re seeing . . .
When you’re lookin’ at you?
Do you like what you’re saying . . .
When you open your face?
Do you got the right feeling?
Are you in the right place?

Stealin’ a tusk from an elephant must make one feel creepy inside.
And although you’ll boast around the fire at night . . .
That ghost will kick up a fight.
“Be gone? Be gone?”, you scream . . .
You’re just some elephant dream . . .
I needed you like you needed me . . .
People, they need piano keys.

If you like where you’re living . . .
If you like what you do . . .
If you like what you’re seeing . . .
When you’re lookin’ at you . . .
If you like what you’re saying . . .
When you open your face . . .
Then you got the right feeling.
You’re in the right place.

“Is this right? Is this right?”
C’mon God answer tonite!
Is there some fee that you’ll charge me . . .
For doin’ what you thought I might?
Once you’ve thought long and hard about it . . .

Tell me if heads will roll
Once you’ve thought long and hard about it . . .
Tell me cuz I need to know . . .

Cause I like where I’m livin’ . . .
And I like what I do . . .
And I like what I’m seein’ . . .
When I’m lookin’ at you . .
I still like what I’m saying . . .
When I open my face.
I think I got the right feeling.
I think I’m in the right place.
I think I got the right feeling.
I think I’m in the right place.

It’s VERY important to me. I hope to be able to say all of the things in that last paragraph. Just as soon as the dust settles…until then…all bets are off. It’s a guessing game that I’m willing to play.

So that is the long version (yet somehow still lacking in detail) about why my mind has been otherwise occupied as of late.

Despite my ramblings this is still a photography blog so there are photos involved. There are MANY awesome things about living in SLC. Number one is that my sister and I moved in together which rocks! And the other is the nearness to everything cool in SLC. Duh! So the morning after we moved, in we left all of our boxes for later and walked over the Days of ’47 Parade. It’s kind of a big deal in Utah and it was just through the block so it was a no brainer. Here are a few shots. I realized later that I mostly took photos of the people watching the parade and not the parade itself. What do you think that means? Hmmm…

I think it is great that you moved to Salt Lake. Even though you don't know why, all you have to know that it is right for you. I'm sure it will be a good change and I want to see your place once you're all settled in!!!

You guys are awesome! I'm glad to have some of the positive reinforcement in writing so that I can read it again when I'm doubting myself. Thanks!! :)

i have read this post a few times, i admit the first few i may or may not have been medicated. however, when you write, it makes me happy. moving is such a pain in the you know what, as i'm sure you have been experiencing, but i think it was a good move, and i can't wait to see it unfold. you know what else i can't wait for? pictures!

pictures and seeing you.
