My thoughts are on vacation...

I never really took a vacation this summer. I always take vacations in the summer. I see why now. I really need a vacation. Now I’m in the deadlock of football season at work, and photos, and other responsibilities. I can not go on vacation. I really need a vacation. So I spend a lot of time thinking about vacations. That is not the same as going on a vacation. I still need a vacation…

What is it about vacations? I just moved to a new city where I can discover new things everyday. Why is that not like a vacation? But it's not...

Vacation is about vacating your head. It's about being someplace new and different. Seeing rows of houses and trees and graffiti that you will never see again. It's about pretending to be a local at the local spots and feeling the rhythm of a place that is not your own and seeing if you like it, and if it fits into what you already know.  And about seeing the ocean because all you ever see is the mountains. Even though you love the mountains. And finding something that you love, so far away from everything else that you know. Learning that people, no matter where they live, are basically the same and so completely different that you can imagine your life different. And it's about being with the people that you are with or by yourself. It's about gaining perspective and gratitude and souvenirs.

And that is why I need a vacation...
