remembering...

I hear a lot at church and in the world in general about recording things so that we don't forget them. I buy into this. I remember some things extremely well (creepy well) and other things not at all. Some things are wiped from my memory as soon as they happen. So, I buy into recording stories and feelings so that we can remember them accurately. And so that others can read and benefit from them. I especially buy into this idea when it comes to growing children. Kids change so much, so fast... so capturing that process...whether through video, photography, or writing... is very important.
So, in case you didn't notice, I don't have children. Or a husband. I do have a family (a great one) but they mostly have their own families in which to record their memories. So, I've been thinking a lot lately about what really is important to record. I'm not growing rapidly...or recording a record of anyone who is growing rapidly. So what is important to record and remember?...
I'm still not sure. Just throwing it out there. What do I think is important for me to record publicly and privately? This helps me evaluate where I spend my time too.
Is it important for me to record all my favorite links and funny clips? Will they even exist to refer back to in ten years? I think the important thing here is intent. If I'm sharing my links and photos and thoughts to be cool, in-the-know, and liked by others I'm probably wasting my time. This is a hollow enterprise. If I'm recording things that make me happy and things that I'm grateful for then I think I'm on the right track. If I'm recording things that have propelled me forward and lifted me up I think I'm on the right track. When I share publicly, am I sharing things that help and lift others or am I trying to draw attention to myself? Hmmmmm....
So which am I doing?... Some things for me to think about...

honestly i would never take you as the, 'to be cool, and liked by others' type. you are confident (in my opinion), and i love that you do things for you. that is what is so refreshing about being your friend. you've taught me a lot of things...
this is one of them.
