water...

I always find myself taking pictures of water…just the water. In fact, the other day on a walk I stopped by a fountain to take a photo and apologized to Stacey for making her stop. She says…”I stopped before you did…it’s water, I knew you’d take a picture of it.”
Have you ever noticed that water has moods? Like people?
This is why I take photos of water…and people. Water is the more predictable subject. It’s more stationary I guess. But all water is varied and depending on the surroundings, extremely varied.
For example, the water in Dana Point, CA…the ocean. There was this one road that peaked and turned right as the ocean came into sight. You could see far out in the ocean…not the part breaking on the beach below. The water was always calm but brilliant…sparkling. Almost blinding. Do you ever feel like that? Probably not as much as I’d like too.
Have you seen ocean water that crashes into cliffs?…turbulent and powerful. What would have to happen to make you feel this way?
Or calm, heavy blue-green lake water. With very little movement…one tributary in and none out.
Or shallow water in the base of a fountain. Brisk and choppy. Rocking or bouncy even?...but not too much. Clear and bright.
The water that resonates with me the most is the dark navy blue water. Shining and reflective on the surface but very deep and steady beneath…pretty calm but changing on the surface depending on the light. Too deep and obscure to really see what is going on deeper. This is my favorite kind of water.
What moods resonate with you?
And a song for good measure...songs match moods too...

i love every post, and i feel the same way about the water.
ps. you are beautiful. that picture is wonderful. well, both of them are.
i can't wait to take my camera to oceanside this year. that's my water. waves crashing against the sand, then receding back, like it's breathing. and at night, when the waves calm, it's like the ocean is sleeping.
mmk, maybe that sounded nutty, but it's true. listening to the ocean 'breathe' has healing powers. truly.
